Chilblains

Chilblains are small, itchy swellings on the skin that occur as a reaction to cold temperatures. They are common in the UK because damp, cold weather is usual in the winter. They most often affect the body's extremities, such as the toes and fingers, on the feet they may be made worse by shoe pressure. Chilblains can be uncomfortable but rarely cause any permanent damage. They normally heal within a few weeks if further exposure to the cold is avoided.

How we can help

Chilblains need treating according to the stage that they are at. Our Podiatrist will accurately diagnose your condition, help you to manage the current stage of your chilblains and educate you on how to prevent them reoccurring. We can also advise you on the use of a suitable chilblain cream to stimulate the circulation or to sooth the toes. We can also apply a dry, sterile dressing on any broken chilblains to prevent infection.
