Verrucas

Verrucas are a viral infection of the skin caused by The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The virus invades the outermost layer of the skin otherwise known as the epidermis which causes visible lesions to appear on the skin. In most cases verrucas are painless and may resolve over time without the need for treatment, however they are only 8% likely to resolve after having one for longer than 6 months. It can take up to five years for the HPV virus to leave your system before the verruca disappears. The length of time it takes for a verruca to disappear will however vary from person to person. You should consider treatment if your verruca is painful, causing you distress or embarrassment or is continuing to grow or spread.
