Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail (onychocryptosis) happens when the edge or corner of your toenail starts growing into the surrounding skin instead of straight outwards. This is a really common foot issue, especially on the big toe, and it can quickly turn sore and uncomfortable if not sorted out. It often stems from things like trimming nails too short, leaving spikelets in the corners, squeezing into tight shoes or footwear that cramps your toes, or sometimes just from an accidental knock to the toe.

Common symptoms of an ingrown toenail include:

At Doncaster Foot Clinic, our friendly podiatry team is here to help make your ingrown toenail a thing of the past. For mild cases, we might guide you on simple at-home care like warm soaks and proper nail care, but we also specialise in effective, professional treatments. This can include carefully lifting and realigning the nail edge, removing the troublesome section, or in persistent cases, a swift nail surgery procedure to prevent the ingrowing section of nail from growing back forever. We also offer advice on footwear, nail trimming techniques, and ways to avoid future problems.

If you’re dealing with pain from an ingrown toenail in Doncaster or nearby, pop in or get in touch – we’ll have you walking comfortably again soon!
