Shockwave Pain Relief Therapy

As podiatrists, we see patients from the Doncaster community, (and further afield), every day whose lives are disrupted by stubborn soft tissue & muscular pain, chronic tendon problems, or injuries that just don’t seem to heal. Rest, ice, stretching, and even physiotherapy can sometimes fall short. This has often left people frustrated and unable to return to their sport, hobbies, or simple every day pleasures like pain-free walking.

This is where Shockwave Therapy has transformed the way we treat chronic lower limb problems. At Doncaster Foot Clinic, we use the latest DolorClast Radial Shockwave and DolorClast Focused Shockwave machines, giving our patients access to the same
gold-standard technology trusted worldwide by elite sports teams, orthopaedic specialists, and rehabilitation clinics.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissues. Unlike medication or injections, it doesn’t just mask the pain – it works by going straight to the root cause and encouraging the body to repair itself.

When we apply shockwaves to the affected area, the effects include:

  • Increased blood flow and circulation
  • Stimulated new cell and tissue growth
  • Broken down scar tissue
  • Reduction in pain by desensitising nerve endings

In simple terms: shockwave therapy helps “reboot” the body’s natural healing process after it has stalled.

Why We Use DolorClast Technology

Not all shockwave machines are created equal. We’ve chosen EMS DolorClast Radial and Focused Shockwave systems because they are considered the most advanced and clinically researched devices on the market.

  • DolorClast Radial Shockwave: Delivers wider, more diffuse energy – ideal for treating larger surface areas such as Plantar Fasciitis or Achilles Tendonitis.
  • DolorClast Focused Shockwave: Delivers precise, deeper energy – perfect for pinpoint treatment of stubborn injuries or deeper structures.

By offering both, we can tailor treatment to your exact condition or pain point, guaranteeing maximum effectiveness. Many clinics only provide one type of Shockwave Therapy, but having access to both allows us to combine them for comprehensive care, or focus on the best one for you! If you’ve had persistent pain for more than three months, shockwave therapy is often the treatment that makes the difference.

What to Expect During Treatment

Patients are often surprised by how straightforward shockwave therapy is.

Assessment – We first examine your lower limb thoroughly to confirm that shockwave therapy is suitable for your condition. This may include a few biomechanical tests & some hands on assessments. We also have access to diagnostic ultrasound technology, if needed.

Treatment – A small handheld device is placed against your skin. The machine delivers sound-wave pulses to the affected area. The session usually lasts 5–10 minutes.

Sensation – You may feel some discomfort during the pulses, but it’s generally well tolerated and adjustable to your comfort level. We’re always receptive to our clients individual tolerance levels, so please just say something if you need a break or would like to stop.

No downtime – You can walk out of the clinic and resume normal daily activities immediately.

Most of our Doncaster Foot Clinic patients typically respond best after a course of 3–6 Shockwave Therapy sessions, spaced about a week apart. Results build over time as the tissue repairs itself, with many patients experiencing significant pain reduction after just 2–3 treatments.
