The Athlete

If you follow us on our socials (@doncasterfootclinic) you’ll have hopefully seen some content around treating Lindsy James.

Lindsy James is an athlete, competing in Triathlons and Duathlons, representing Great Britain, across the world. Suffice to say, she keeps herself in great condition and knows her own body inside out. But that doesn’t mean she’s immune to niggling injuries that need intervention. And, being a local Doncaster girl, she chose Doncaster Foot Clinic to help her overcome her pain & get her back out doing what she does best. And that’s winning medals.

The Assessment

We sat down with Lindsy for a consultation and obtained some history from her on past injuries. We then assessed the current state of play by taking her through a Biomechanical Assessment, where we observed and measured the range of joint motion, muscle strength and flexibility, looking for any misalignments, weaknesses or restrictions in the feet, ankle, legs, pelvis and shoulders.

The Injury

From this, and by taking onboard her current symptoms, we diagnosed her with Posterior Tibial Tendinitis, which is pain and inflammation around the inside of the foot, specifically around the instep/ arch and the inside of the ankle. One of the key factors in healing this type of injury is straight away taking a look at Lindsy’s running trainers and other footwear. We need to manage the load going through the tendon. This is where we prescribed Orthotics to Lindsy, which would help in load distribution.

The Treatment

However, whilst this injury isn’t a particularly bad one, tendons can be a slow healer. Being an athlete, Lindsy needed the healing process to be given an extra push in the right direction. We therefore introduced Lindsy to our Laser Pain Relief Therapy machine, which is a safe, non-invasive and painless therapy for the treatment of pain, inflammation, swelling and to promote healing. Perfect for Lindsy!

Recovery at the Speed of Light!

Laser pain relief therapy involves directing light energy into the inflamed or damaged tissue to stimulate and accelerate the body’s natural healing process. We place the laser head in direct contact with the skin, enabling wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into the tissue creating a molecular and cellular responses. This reduces pain in the targeted area and speeds the recovery of damaged cells, both of which was of high priority to Lindsy!

The Result

After a total of four sessions with us, Lindsy is fighting fit once more and ready to take on her next upcoming World event in Alsdorf, Germany. She even dropped by some chocolates for the team, which is always a sign of a job well done in my book!
